一千种建筑与一种建筑。为了克服混乱,人们虚构了不同的建筑编码体系,但任何建筑编码本身不可能是一种元语言。
要将我们的注意力从其习惯性任务的束缚中解放片刻,并去思考“为什么”。而在回答“为什么”这个问题时,要抱着单纯、简朴、公正的态度。这也就是说,要抛弃我们的固有成见,要把我们的记忆储备都封存到地下三层银行的铁门后面,并将过去年代的所有诗情画意抛在一边……对于每一个目的,都要这样追问自己:它们都是什么?在这些问题上的一场冷血的检验。
如果让我来教建筑?
面对年轻的学生,我会问:你如何开启一扇门?什么尺寸?你把它放在哪儿?你又如何开启一扇窗户?还有,老实说,窗户是用来干什么的?你真的知道为什么要创造出窗户这种东西来吗?如果你知道,请告诉我们。如果你知道,你就能向我们解释为什么窗户要设计成拱形的,正方的,或者是长方的,等等。我想要知道其中的原因。还有,我要加上一条:等一下:今天我们还需要窗户吗?
你还要去参观一些建筑工地,看看钢筋混凝土是怎么制成的,看看屋顶平台和地面都是怎么做的,看看窗户是怎么装的。如果你在工地上看到一些愚蠢的事情,别忘了记下来。
勒·柯布西耶 Le Corbusier
用传统形式与古老废墟装饰我们的功绩,以自然伪装手艺,以永恒伪装存在,给技术功能贴上“诗意”的标签,使那些由技术组成的多元政治的苛刻条约显得“高尚”——恰恰是这些做法迫使建筑陷入了最可鄙的苦难。

每个人都知道屋顶或阳台是什么,这让我可以很容易地与非建筑师讨论项目,但它们同时也可以超越了日常交流的范畴……建筑要素的可能性和组合方式都是无限的。在每一栋建筑里,你都可以重新定义它们。它既涉及形式和环境,也涉及空间和尺度,以及它们与身体的关系,还涉及特定的位置、特定的地形、气候、时间等。
