Yang Amiao Mansion is a traditional Chinese residential complex located in Tingdian Village, Jiangnan Town, Quanzhou District. It was built by Yang Amiao, a prominent overseas Chinese from the Philippines. Construction began in 1894, during the 20th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty, and took 13 years to complete. It is a representative example of traditional Southern Fujian residential architecture, known for its spacious and well-organized layout.

Unique Features: The front part of the east wing features a flower hall, connected to the entrance hall by a convolute-style square pavilion. Inside the pavilion, there is a railing with a “meiren kao” (a kind of wooden balustrade), which divides the side courtyard into two small and exquisite courtyards. This creates a relatively independent unit, serving as a study and guest room, and contributes to a quiet and elegant atmosphere.

Main Building: It features a five-bay main hall with protective wings on both sides and a two-row depth structure. The wooden framework is constructed using the traditional cantilevered beam system.

Roof Design: The roof is of the gable type, covered with barrel tiles and adorned with swallow-tail shaped ridges, which are characteristic of Southern Fujian architecture.

Courtyard Design: In addition to the central large courtyard, there are four smaller courtyards between the east and west wing rooms (known as “ju tou jian”) and the main and gate houses. This unique layout, locally referred to as the “five plum blossom courtyards,” enhances ventilation and lighting while enriching the internal spatial arrangement.

Wings and Corridors: The east and west wings are arranged in a long row and connected by a corridor that runs through from north to south. This is a typical layout in Southern Fujian residential architecture.
